YORK IMPERIAL. 1830, York County Pennsylvania. A lopsided apple, Andrew Jackson Downing called it, "the Imperial of Keepers". Ripens late October. found in winter, still good, in the snow. Chilled, it keeps all winter. Good for cider, pies, sauce, fresh. |
