Northern Spy
Northern Spy (26 trees). 1800, Canandaigua, New York. Third most popular U.S. apple in early 1900's. Trees take 12 or more years to bear, biennial bearing. "Northerners' Pie Apple," used in Mrs. Smith's pies. Also excellent fresh, especially crisp if mountain grown. Ripens late September to early October. Keeps until spring in cold storage, if harvested early. |
