Rome

ROME (several old trees).
1820s, Rome Township, Ohio.
Sprouted from a root on the bank of the Ohio River.
People took slips before floods washed the tree away.
Bright red, thick skinned, good for baking and cider.
Harvested late September - November.
Best for eating fresh if left on the tree until late October.
Long shelf life.
